How should I prepare for an emergency?
You need an Emergency Kit! An Emergency Kit is a collection of essential items you will need to make it through an emergency. An emergency could be anything from our current global COVID-19 aka coronavirus pandemic to natural disasters like tornados, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other severe storms. Every family will be affected by one of these natural events at some point in their lifetime and you should be prepared! Once you take a look at the basic items, consider what unique needs your family might have, such as supplies for pets or seniors. Use the list below to get started:
- Water (at least a gallon per person, per day)
- Non-perishable food (such as dried fruit, peanut butter, or energy bars)
- Prescription medicines
- Extra batteries or an alternative power source
- Battery-powered or hand-cranked radio
- Pocket knife
- Whistle or alarm to signal for help
- Can opener (manual)
